Y6 Home Learning November 2020

Thursday 5th November

9.30 Zoom meeting with Mr. Attenborough and Mrs. Benn- details same as before, will send out in the morning again. You'll need paper and a pen again for a Bonfire Night quiz.

English:

Click this link for today's English activity.  We'd like you finish off your information text today (pages 13 onwards).  Make sure you check it against the WILF on the document above- it should have an introduction, 4 paragraphs with subheadings and a summary.  It'd be great to have some pictures with captions too.

We'd love to see your finished reports!

Reading

Today we'd like you to do the other VIPERS questions on the bonfire poem- see below.

Maths

More activities will magically appear for you on MyMaths on Thursday morning.  Well done to everyone persisting with these. We're aware some of them are a bit hard, and there have been a few teething problems with using MyMaths so don't worry if it doesn't seem to work right. If you're finding it hard don't forget you can watch the lesson first before doing the activity.

The two tasks are:

-Mutiply decimals by 10 and 100

-Factors and primes

Tomorrow's challenge level activity is on squares and cubes.

Instead of TTRS or NumBots again, we'd like you to explore the Game ssection of the MyMaths website and spend 15mins playing some of them- try the Astro Count Down game today!

If you're using Safari or on an Apple device, these games might not work! Try running them in Chrome, or if they still won't work just do TTRS/NumBots!

Art

Today's topic lesson is a Bonfire Night art activity we'd like you to have a go at. As per usual, we'd love to see your completed work!  You can use an art activity in Purple Mash to do it if you like- please take your time to produce something lovely!

Mrs Bown and Mr Attenborough would love to hear how you're getting on and see examples of your work- please send via Purple Mash email or email to Y5-6Department@scargill.derbyshire.sch.uk

Wednesday 4th November

9.30 Zoom meeting with Mr. Attenborough and Mrs. Bown- details have been sent out via text to parents. You'll need paper and a pen again!

English:

Click this link for today's English activity.  We'd like you write the next two paragraphs of your report today, and continue editing/improving as necessary, pages 11 and 12 of the document.  If you want to send them to Mr Attenborough or Mrs Bown for some advice on how to improve them, that'd be lovely.  Alternatively if you wait till Thursday and send your completed reports that'd be OK too.

Reading

We're reading a poem about a bonfire in the Zoom meeting, and we'd like you to do some ERIS-type questions on it today and tomorrow.

Maths

More activities will magically appear for you on MyMaths on Wednesday morning.

The two tasks are:

-mental division

-more addition and subtraction

Tomorrow's challenge level activity is on multiplying tripe digits.

If you're using Safari or on an Apple device, these games might not work! Try running them in Chrome, or if they still won't work just do TTRS/NumBots!

R.E.

Tomorrow's topic lesson is an R.E. one on Who Was Jesus?  Click here for the link. As per usual, we'd be delighted to see your finished work!

Tuesday 3rd November

9.30 Zoom meeting with Mr. Attenborough and Mrs. Bown- details have been sent out via text to parents. You'll need paper and a pen!

English:

Click this link for today's English activity.  We'd like you to continue with what you were doing yesterday, work through pages 7-10 of the task.  We'd like you to have a go at writing the introduction and the first two paragraphs of your report today.  Don't forget to check it carefully with the WILF on page 10!  It'd be nice to see how you're getting on with your report via email, then Mrs. Bown and I can help you improve it as you're going. We'll be finishing the rest of the sections later on in the week.

Again we'd like you to log on to either Oxford Reading Owl or Epic Books and choose a book to read- login details in letter below.  Alternatively if you have your own reading book we'd like you to spend 10mins reading it.  It'd be lovely to hear if you've found an interesting text to share with others!

Maths

Log on to MyMaths (your login details have been sent via Purple Mash) and look at today's set work.  The activities are:

-Mental multiplication practise and strategies

-Negative numbers (2)

The extra challenge for tomorrow is Very Big Numbers- as you might guess it's a bit of a challenge!

Again they are all stuff we've done in Power Maths before half term.

It's been great to see who's getting on with the MyMaths activities- Mrs. Bown and I can see the scores when we log in.

We'd like you to spend a few minutes doing either Times Tables Rock Stars or NumBots (NumBots login is the same as TTRS- let me know if you need a reminder!)  Perhaps you could do the "other" one you didn't do yesterday (if you did TTRS try NumBots, if you did NumBots try TTRS).

Topic

Science -click here for a link to a Science lesson from Oak Academy on static electricity. If you can get hold of a balloon beforehand that'd be good. We'd love to see your diagrams from the end of the lesson.

Mrs Bown and Mr Attenborough would love to hear how you're getting on and see examples of your work- please send via Purple Mash email or email to Y5-6Department@scargill.derbyshire.sch.uk
